In Q2, 2011, Amazon saw it’s revenue jump by an astounding 51%, compared to the same quarter in 2010 – the fastest growth the internet behemoth has seen in a decade, with it’s revenue at a huge $9.9billion. (Interesting factoid: Amazon accounts for around a third of all U.S. ecommerce!)

With crime novelist John Lock selling over a million ebooks without the involvement of a publisher via Kindle’s Direct Publishing link, and sales of digital books expected to exceed those of paperbacks by the end of the year, it looks like Amazon’s dominance of the ebook market will continue unabated.

It’ll be interesting to see what kind of effect the rumored Amazon tablet device will have, but with the company expanding into food sales this year and acquiring LoveFilm, on top of its already growing inventory, will there be a part of our lives not touched by Amazon in the future?
